Car sales up in Kazakhstan in Jan. - March

Official car dealers increased sales in Kazakhstan by a quarter in January-March 2014, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on April 24 with the reference to Kazakhstan's auto business association.

In this period they sold 34, 474 cars.

As many as 79.3 percent of cars sold in Kazakhstan in the reporting period had been imported from abroad and 20.7 percent had been assembled in the country

The majority of cars sold in Kazakhstan were imported from Russia (19, 521 cars or 56.6 percent of all cars sold in Kazakhstan in January- March 2014).

Russian cars' share in sales in Kazakhstan amounted to 41 percent in the same period of 2013.

Kazakh car sales increased 20.44 percent in the reporting period to 7,137 cars.

Japanese cars were the third best sellers in Kazakhstan in the first quarter of 2014. Some 7 percent of all cars sold in Kazakhstan in this period or 2,399 cars had been imported from Japan. Its sales increased by 16 percent in January-March 2014.

Meanwhile, Uzbek cars sales fell by more than half to 1,128 due to introduction of new technical regulations in Kazakhstan. Most of Uzbek cars do not meet requirements of this regulation.

The top best seller brand in this period was Lada (10,163 sold cars). Its sales increased by 1 percent in January-March 2014.

Hyundai with 3,190 sold cars ranked second in the sales (63 percent increase compared to the same period of 2013).

KIA with 3,076 cars sold ranked third in sales (24 percent increase in sales).
