Azerbaijan reduces cattle import from Georgia by over 8 percent

Around 3,450 tonnes of live cattle worth $8.93 million was exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2014, a report from GruzStat (Georgia's National Statistical Service) said.

The share of this category in the total volume of Georgian exports to Azerbaijan for the period totaled 6.13 percent, according to the report.

The volume of cattle exports from Georgia to Azerbaijan decreased by 8.32 percent or by 440 tonnes in Jan.-March, 2014, compared to the same period of 2013.

By comparison, around 3,890 tonnes of live cattle worth $9.74 million was exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2013.

In total, around $145.68 million worth of goods were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in Jan.-March, 2014. This figure accounts for 20.9 percent of the total volume of Georgia's exports during the reporting period.

The export to Azerbaijan has increased by 1.48 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

Azerbaijan maintains second position in the list of Georgia's largest trading partners.

Georgia exports vehicles, cattle (live weight), steel reinforcement, cement, mineral water, glass and glass products and medicines to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan, in turn, exports oil and petroleum products, natural gas, trucks and construction materials to Georgia.
