Azerbaijani parliament adopted a package of amendments to the country's tax legislation at a plenary session held on Friday, May 16.

The amendments were made to the 'Law on changes and additions to the Tax Code' and the 'Law on purchasing land for public use'.

Aside from that the 'Laws on granting temporary a tax relief to producers of agricultural commodities' and the 'Law on provision of temporary tax relief to day nurseries, daycare centers, kindergartens, special kindergartens and orphanages' were abolished.

Commenting on the changes to the legislation Azerbaijani Parliament's Economic Policy Committee Head, Ziyad Samedzade said these changes only have a unifying character.

"This is not an abolition of such relief. All the rules in these laws have also been included into a package of amendments to the Tax Code and these documents are no longer needed," Samedzade said.

Azerbaijani parliament also made amendments to the "Law on state dues'.

The changes cover dues needed for obtaining permission for foreigners' and stateless persons' temporary or permanent residence in Azerbaijan.

To extend the period of temporary residence in Azerbaijan, adult foreign nationals or stateless persons will have to pay 30 manats for a three-month period, 60 manats for a six-month period, 120 manats for a one-year period, and 360 manats for a three-year period.

The dues for the temporary residence of minors in Azerbaijan are as follows:

- 15 manats for a three-month period;

- 30 manats for a six-month period;

- 60 manats for a one-year period;

- 180 manats for a three-year period.

Persons receiving full-time education at higher and secondary special educational institutions of Azerbaijan will have to pay 40 manats for one year of their studies, and 80 manat for two years of their studies.

Those who want to obtain a work permit or to extend the period of their engagement in a paid occupation in Azerbaijan, will have to pay 350 manats for a three-month period, 600 manats a for six-month period, and 1,000 manats for a one-year period.

The official exchange rate is 0.7844 AZN/USD as of May 16.
