Tehran and Astana plan to increase their ties in the agriculture sector.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between the Iran's Agricultural Research and Education Organization (AREO) Head, Eskandar Zand and Kazakh Deputy Agriculture Minister, Saparkhan Omarov in Tehran, IRNA news agency reported on June 7.

Saparkhan Omarov is heading a delegation consisting of officials of the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry.

"Expanding agricultural ties is among the top priorities of Iranian government," Zand said.

He went on to add that Tehran can export knowledge of producing vaccines to Astana.

Omarov, for his part, said Iran is an important regional partner for Kazakhstan.

"We are ready to export wheat and barley to Iran," he added.

Iran and Kazakhstan are already in negotiations on an oil swap deal and expansion of ties in the banking sector.
