Georgia's exports to the EU countries will be increased by 12 percent after the signing of the association agreement with the EU, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said at a joint press-conference with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in Tbilisi on June 13.
"This is important from economic and political points of view," he added. This is also a strong incentive for Georgia in terms of reforms. We expect further improvements in the country's democratization."
Garibashvili said that after the signing of the association agreement with the EU, GDP will increase by 4.3 percent.
Georgia's foreign trade turnover with the EU countries in 2013 amounted to $2.879 billion. The exports amounted to $608 million, while import - $2.271 billion. Some 27 percent of the total foreign trade turnover of Georgia fell to the share of the EU countries in 2013.
