Azerbaijan sees almost 6-percent growth in agricultural production

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan at the current prices has increased by 5.8 percent in Jan.-June, compared to the same period of 2013 and stood at 2.271 billion AZN, the country's State Statistical Committee said in its report.

The livestock and crop production has increased by 3 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively during the reporting period, according to the information.

As of June 24, around 357,800 hectares of area was sown with spring crops, 64,900 hectares - grains and legumes, 61,700 hectares - potatoes, 76,000 hectares - vegetables, 28,000 hectares - melons, 22,900 hectares - cotton, 11,700 hectares - feeding sunflower and 5,700 hectares - sugar beet.

Azerbaijan continues harvesting crop products. Over 1.779 million tonnes of grain (including corn) was harvested as of July 1, which is 18.2 percent more than in the same period of 2013.

Around 260,700 tonnes of potatoes, 342,400 tonnes of vegetables, 90,800 tonnes of fruits and berries, 44,200 tonnes of melons have been harvested in the country since the beginning of the season.

The country produced some 220,700 tonnes of meat (live weight), 929,200 tonnes of milk, 768.8 million chicken eggs and 15,000 tonnes of wool in the first half of 2014.

Azerbaijan saw an increase in the production of following products in Jan.-June, compared to the same period of 2013: meat - 1.9 percent, milk - 3.1 percent, chicken eggs - 12.2 percent and wool - 2.1 percent.
