Prices of staple food rise in Iran

Prices of six groups of food, including dairy, vegetables, sugar, tea, cow meat, and beans have increased in Iran in the week which ended July 18 compared to the same period the previous year.

The Central Bank of Iran has also released a chart comparing the price of staple food in the mentioned week with its preceding week, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on July 23.

According to a report released by the Central Bank of Iran, the price of dairy, vegetables, sugar, tea, cow meat and beans increased by 15.9 percent, 5.2 percent, 0.1, percent, 3.3 percent, 0.1 percent, and 0.1 percent respectively, compared to previous year.

However, the prices of eggs, rice, fruits, and chicken meat decreased by 10.4 percent, 0.1 percent, 3.4 percent, and 1.6 percent, respectively.

Prices of staple foods in Iran has been on the rise as the administration will no longer allocate the U.S. dollar at the exchange rate of 12,260 rials for importing rice, meat, milk, and edible oil, the Mehr News Agency reported in July.
