Length of roads built in half year announced in Uzbekistan

The work on the construction and reconstruction of automobile road with the total length of 213.6 kilometers has been carried out in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2014, according to the report of the Uzbek State Committee on Statistics.

Some 425 billion soums of capital investment has been used for the facilities of construction and re-construction of the automobile road during the reported period, which are the part of the Uzbek national highway, the report noted.

Some 257 billion soums of this amount was allocated from the Uzbek Republican Road Fund and $73 million was attracted in the form of loans from international financial institutions.

As previously reported, the program on the construction of national highway of the first technical category worth $3.44 billion is approved by the president of Uzbekistan, in May 2009.

It is planned to build four sections of roads with total length of 1,501 kilometres by 2015 within the frame of the program.

The project is financed by the Uzbek Government in the amount of 1.86 billion, as well as by means of loans of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and other international financial institutions in the total amount of $1.58 billion.

At present, the total length of roads in Uzbekistan is 146,400 kilometers. Some 42,500 kilometers out of this are main public roads, including 3,200 kilometers of international automobile highway and another 18,800 kilometers are of national importance.

About 20 international transport routes and directions are passing through the territory of Uzbekistan.
