Kazakh banks’ assets rise by 12.4 in Jan.- June

Kazakh banks's assets increased by 12.4 percent in the first half of 2014 and amounted to 17.379 trillion tenge (183.53 tenge = $1) as of July 1, 2014, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on July 30 with the reference to Financial Supervision Committee under Kazakh National Bank.

The largest share (63.1 percent or 14.536 trillion tenge) of the banks' assets structure fell on the bank's loan portfolio. Kazakh banks' loan portfolio grew by 8.9 percent since the beginning of 2014.

Loans to legal entities (53.3 percent of the loan portfolio) increased by 3.6 percent since the beginning of the year, loans to individuals (25 percent of the loan portfolio) increased by 10.1 percent.

Consumer loans hit 17.3 percent stake in the total loan portfolio of the banking system in the first half of 2014 (compared to 16.8 percent in the beginning of 2014) or 2.521 trillion tenge as of July 1, 2014, which is 12.5 percent compared to the beginning of this year.

Non-performing loans (overdue more than 90 days) amounted to 4.686 trillion tenge, or 32.2 percent of the loan portfolio (31.2 percent of the loan portfolio at the beginning of 2014). Provisions for loan portfolio hit 5.036 trillion tenge, or 34.6 percent of the loan portfolio (34.8 percent of the loan portfolio at the beginning of 2014).

The main part of the bank's total liabilities fell on customer deposits (73.9 percent) and on the outstanding securities (6.5 percent). Kazakh banks's liabilities to non-residents of Kazakhstan makes up 1.508 trillion tenge or 9.9 percent of total liabilities.

A total number of 38 second-tier banks are working in Kazakhstan. Of them 17 are foreign banks, including 15 subsidiary banks.
