Iran’s imports increase by 32 percent in 1H

Iran imported $28.897 billion worth of goods during the first half of 2014, which indicates a rise by 32.2 percent, compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran imported some 20.869 million tonnes of goods during that period which is 32.98 percent more compared to the first six months of 2013, Iranian Customs Administration said in its latest monthly report released on Aug. 13.

Iran purchased 69.21 percent of its total imported goods in the first six months of 2014 from five countries. The United Arab Emirates, China, India, South Korea and Turkey are the mentioned five counties.

Iran imported 4.948 million tonnes of goods worth $7.358 billion from the United Arab Emirates in the mentioned period, which accounts for 25.46 percent of its total imports in terms of value.

The country also imported 2.703 million tonnes of goods worth $6.181 billion from China, which marks 21.39 percent of Iran's total imports.

Iran's imports from the UAE and China witnessed a 72.7 percent and 70.4 percent rise respectively in terms of value in comparison with the first half of 2013.

India, South Korea and Turkey respectively exported $2.399 billion, $2.097 billion, and $1.965 billion worth of goods to Tehran.

India's exports to Iran has increased by 36.68 percent during the period, meanwhile the exports of South Korea and Turkey to the country indicates an increase of only 0.49 percent and 15.35 percent respectively compared with the same period of preceding year.

Wheat worth $1.11 billion, motor vehicles with internal combustion engine worth $1.056 billion and corn fodder worth $965 million topped the list of Iran's imported goods.

The average price for each one tonne of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1385, which is 0.59 percent less than the previous year.

Iran's non-oil goods trade balance (excluding gas condensates), faced a $12.472 billion deficit in the first half of 2014, compared to $6.26 billion in the same period of 2013.

The country's non-oil exports (excluding condensates) surpassed $16.425 billion in the six-month period, indicating an increase by 5.3 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran's trade balance with 85 countries was positive, while with 91 countries it was negative.
