Iran’s suitcase trade exports to Azerbaijan increases by 24 percent

Iran has exported $15.39 million worth of goods to Azerbaijan in the form of suitcase trade during the 4-month period from March 21, which indicates an increase by 24.47 percent compared to the same period of preceding year (Iran's fiscal year starts on March 21).

Iranian Custom Administration's latest monthly report, released on Aug. 13 said that the country has exported goods worth $7.118 million via Astara, $4.723 million via Julfa, $3.259 million via Bilasuvar and $289,000 via Poldasht custom checkpoints to Azerbaijan during the mentioned period.

Iran has exported $25.598 million worth of goods to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) through the suitcase trade during March 21 - July 22, which is 9.68 percent more compared to the first four months of the last Iranian fiscal year (March 21- July 22, 2013).

The figure shares only 0.24 percent of the total export value of the country during the period for 2014.

During the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20), the same trade was worth $101.46 million which was 26.92 percent more than the suitcase trade exports in the preceding year.

Iran's total non-oil exports (including condensates) to foreign countries stood at $16.1 billion in the 4-month period from March 21, while the country's total imports amounted to $17.655 billion.
