Uzbekistan concludes first half-year with state budget surplus

The surplus of Uzbekistan's state budget in January-June 2014 was 33.9 billion soums, or 0.1 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), according to a message from Uzbek Finance Ministry.

Uzbek state budget's revenues in January-June (excluding funds-in-trust) stood at 14.717 trillion soums (24.1 percent of GDP), while expenses totaled 14.683 trillion soums (24 percent of GDP), the Finance Ministry said.

Incomes from direct taxes amounted to 3.572 trillion soums, or 24.3 percent of the budget revenues, while incomes from indirect taxes were 7,761 trillion soums (52.7 percent), according to the message.

Resource payments and property tax secured state budget revenues worth 1.977 trillion soums (13.4 percent), other revenues totaled 1.406 trillion soums (9.6 per cent), the ministry said in its message.

On the state budget's expenditure side, the expenses on social sector and population's social protection were 8.927 trillion soums, or 60.8 percent of all expenditures. Aside from that, some 5,102 trillion soums were spent on the development of education in the first half-year (or 34.7 percent out of total expenses), while 2.029 trillion soums (13.8 percent) were spent on the healthcare.

The state budget spending on the economy amounted to 1.430 trillion soums, or 9.7 percent.

During the mentioned period some 628.4 billion soums (4.3 percent) were spent on the maintenance of public authorities, courts and administration, as well as self-governing institutions of citizens, while other expenses totalled 2.897 trillion soums (19.7 percent).

Uzbekistan's 2014 state budget was approved with a deficit of 1.3 trillion soums (one percent of the projected GDP). The state budget's revenues were approved in the amount of 30.2 trillion soums (23.2 percent of GDP), and expenditures - 31.5 trillion soums (24.2 percent of GDP).

The official exchange rate for August 14 is 2340.19 soums/$1.
