Cargo transportations through Azerbaijani segment of Eurasian transport corridor decrease

In January-June 2014 the Eurasian transport corridor (TRACECA, the Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transported 28.1 million tonnes through the territory of Azerbaijan versus 29 million tonnes in January-May 2013, says the report of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan for the first seven months of 2014.

Of the total transported goods volume, some 49.7 percent accounted for road transport, 33.9 percent for rail and 16.4 percent by sea.

In January-June, some 149.4 million people (7.7 percent increase over same period of 2013) were transported through the corridor.
Revenues from transportation of goods within the corridor for the period amounted to 242.5 million AZN, which is 7.1 percent more than in January-June 2013. Revenues of passenger traffic in January-June amounted to 52.3 million AZN, which is 12.6 percent more than in the same period of last year.

In 2013, the Azerbaijani segment of the corridor transported 59 million tonnes of cargo, which is a 3.8 percent increase over 2012. Some 285.2 million people were transported within the corridor last year - a 9.3 percent increase over 2012.

Revenues from transportation of goods within the corridor in 2013 amounted to 476.4 million AZN, which is a 7.5 percent gain compared to 2012. Revenues from passenger traffic last year amounted to 106.5 million AZN, which is 15.8 percent more than in 2012.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Iran.
