French company Thalys to modernize Baku Metro’s control system

Baku Metro CJSC and the French company Thalys inked a contract on supply of equipment for control and signalling system of the Baku Metro.

The company said in its message that modern equipment, to be delivered by Thalys, will be in initial phase installed at the 'Bus Terminal' and 'Memar Ajami-2' stations ('purple line').

The contract includes the purchase of modern equipment and software, their installation, as well as settlement of other related issues.

The use of new equipment envisages a full automation of control and signal system of the Baku Metro, as well as minimizing the human participation in the process, according to the message.

Currently, the length of the Baku Metro lines is 34.6 kilometers. Baku Metro has two lines, however it is planned to increase the number to five.

It is also planned to increase the metro lines' length to 119 kilometers, and the number of metro stations - to 76.

Baku Metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. Previously, a 20-year program was adopted to develop the Baku Metro.
