Large chemical plant to be built in Turkmenistan

Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation and Turkish GAP Instaat Yatirim ve Dis Ticaret AS will build a large chemical plant in Garabogaz on the Caspian coast in accordance with the agreement signed with the Turkmen government, Mitsubishi Corporation said Aug.19.

The project will be implemented in collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. for the Turkmenchemistry state concern, according to the report.

This will be the largest enterprise of this kind in Turkmenistan. The estimated cost of the contract for its construction is $1.3 billion, according to the report.

The complex will produce up to 2,000 tons of ammonia and 3.5 tons of carbamide per year.

Turkmenistan has the fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world. The country's government seeks to increase the cost of this type of fuel through deep processing, according to the report.

Japanese media reported that the new chemical plant in Turkmenistan will be put into operation in June 2018. The construction of the plant will begin in the first half of 2015, The Japan Times reported.
