Customs and border posts of Azerbaijan on the border with Russia and Georgia are working in emergency mode, and queues formed a couple of days ago due to a landslide in the Daryal Gorge in Georgia, have been eliminated, Azerbaijani State Customs Committee (SCC) told Trend Aug. 27.

"At the moment intensive work is being carried out both at the Sinig Korpu checkpoint and at the Samur checkpoint, which ensures free movement across the Azerbaijani-Georgian and Azerbaijani-Russian border," the SCC said.

Due to the landslide on the area of the Russian-Georgian border vehicles transporting goods to Turkey, had to pass through the territory of Azerbaijan. Large flow caused delays on the Azerbaijani-Russian customs, which led to the formation of queues on both sides of the border.

The corresponding structures continue to work towards the elimination of the consequences of the floods in emergency mode, the Revenue Service of Georgia (structure, combining the functions of the customs and tax authority) told Trend Aug. 27.
"It is impossible to tell the exact date of the opening of the Kazbegi check-point (from the Russian side - Upper Lars), but it most likely will be open in 10 days," the service said. "The damage is estimated at $3 million, but it may be higher if we can not restore the car scanner on Georgian border checkpoint. It is expensive and if it has to be substituted, it will cost another $10-12 million," the service added.

One section of Georgian Military Road blocked by a landslide has now been cleared, and maintenance on the clearing of another section of the road two kilometers long is being carried out, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia told Trend Aug. 27.

Work on restoration of the customs check-point are also continues and the Daryal HPP technical tunnel is being cleared, the department said.

A meteorological station which automatically measures the amount of precipitation, temperature and barometric pressure has been installed in Devdorak Gorge for monitoring landslide processes. In addition, the landslide situation in the gorge is constantly monitored by seismic stations.
