Iranian and Tajik businessmen met in Tajikistan's city of Dushanbe, exploring ways to boost bilateral ties.

The two sides discussed cooperation in energy, food, technical and engineering projects, Iran's IRIB reported on August 27.

Iran's chamber of commerce chairman Gholamhossein Shafe'i, who headed the Iranian delegation, said a joint Iran-Tajikistan business council will be established in the near future.

With $300 million annual trade turnover with Tajikistan, Iran is Tajikistan's fifth trading partner next to Russia, China, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.

In March, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov stressed the need for utilizing the abundant capacities of their countries to lay a suitable groundwork for the consolidation of all-out ties between the two nations.
