Azerbaijan invites German companies to actively participate in the fast-growing economy of the country, particularly in the non-oil sector, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a meeting with a German delegation Sept. 2, according to the Azerbaijani foreign ministry.

The German delegation was led by chairman of the board of the German-Azerbaijani forum Hans-Eberhard Schleyer and Bundestag member, the head of the "Germany-South Caucasus" parliamentary group Karin Shtrents.

During the meeting, Mammadyarov expressed satisfaction with the current level of German-Azerbaijani relations. He stressed that the parliamentary diplomacy plays a special role in the development of cooperation between the countries.

The minister stressed that the unresolved Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the main obstacle for the comprehensive development of the region. The conflict settlement can create great opportunities for this region. First of all, the Armenian armed forces must be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Hans-Eberhard Schleyer stressed at the meeting that the German-Azerbaijani forum was established for intensifying the political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries. He stressed the importance of Azerbaijan in ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Karin Shtrents said that the mutual visits of parliamentarians of the two countries play an important role in the development of the inter-state relations and stressed the great importance of this visit.

The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
