Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan hosted the opening of a new check-point built for the Shahtakhty Customs Administration, the State Customs Committee (SCC) said on Oct. 26.
The Shahtakhty-Poldest International checkpoint will serve traffic of freight and passenger cars, as well as the visa permits of citizens, and the speedy development of international relations with Iran, said the SCC.
Currently, the customs checkpoint is undergoing work on the transition to an automated "single window" system of customs inspection.
Another check point will open in the Poldest city in 2010 that meets international standards.
Construction of the international Shahtakhty-Poldest checkpoint, which extends to 5.7 hectares, began in March 2008. An administrative building of the point consists of three floors. X-ray machines, radiation monitoring equipment and other devices have been installed at the point For the customs control.
