Azerbaijan, Baku, March 12 /Trend Capital, A.Badalova/

The U.S., Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry and State Veterinary Service are combating health threats in the country.

The U.S. Embassy Security Office organized a two-week seminar in Azerbaijan to improve cooperation in this field.

The program aims to improve cooperation between veterinarians and public health officials to identify dangerous diseases widespread among animals, including the bird flu.

According to U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse, the seminar is important as it provides U.S. veterinarians and scientists with an opportunity to share ideas and strategies with their Azerbaijani colleagues.

"The U.S. and Azerbaijan are partners in many fields. We work closely to cooperate in security and energy," Derse said.

Close cooperation in the health field will enable a more efficient fight against infectious diseases, Derse said.

"Global threats must be addressed at the global level," she added.

As part of a hazard risk reduction cooperation program worth $100 million, the U.S. is conducting joint activities to reduce so-called transnational threats, she said.

The U.S. is cooperating with the Azerbaijani health, agriculture and defense ministries.
