The field of renewable energy sources is a promising area of the Azerbaijan-Japan cooperation that should be actively developed, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Masamitsu Oki said.
"Azerbaijan should be prepared to cooperate in this field," he said. "We are discussing this issue," the ambassador told Trend at the signing ceremony of grant contracts at the Ambassador's residence.
Oki regards development of solar energy and wind energy as the main directions. There are not specific projects in the field of renewable energy sources yet, he said. However, Azerbaijan is interested in developing this area, as evidenced by discussions at the ministerial level.
Azerbaijan has already established the Agency on alternative and renewable energy. The country has launched the work on the implementation of projects on the use of wind and solar energy. Azerbaijan also considers the possibility of building small hydropower stations in the Goychay and Mingachevir regions, as well as in the Balakan and Zagatala regions. The relevant agencies have already prepared several projects on construction of small hydropower plant. The country has launched the construction of the Technology Park to develop wind power in the territory of Lankaran region (Yeni Yashma).
According to Oki, education and health still remains the traditional spheres of the Azerbaijani-Japanese. Presently, the sides pay much attention to the development of ecology.
Signing of more eight agreements under the Grassroots and Human Security Grant assistance Programme may be example for this. The total amount of the Japanese Grant Assistance project is $763, 982. The projects cover such areas as waste management, improvement of rivers and embankment and construction of schools in the regions of Azerbaijan.
The signing ceremony was held at the Ambassador's residence. In their welcoming speeches, Oki and Education Minister Misir Mardanov expressed satisfaction with the current level of the Azerbaijan-Japan relations and hope for their further strengthening and development.
