Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb. 4 / Trend H.Hasanov /

The French Schneider Electric, as part of consortium with ENEX, signed an agreement with the Turkmen government to enhance the reliability of Ashgabat's (population: 600,000) power grid, the company reported.

The agreement was signed at the French Prime Minister's residence during Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov's visit to France.

The project was initiated in partnership with Belgian contractor ENEX Process Engineering in September 2008 at Turkmenistan's request.

The project designed to substantially improve the quality and reliability of the power grid and respond to the surge in energy consumption resulting from Ashgabat's extremely rapid growth.

Schneider Electric проведет инженерные исследования, поставит оборудование и обеспечит надзор в процессе модернизации энергетической сетки столицы.

Schneider Electric will deliver engineering studies, equipment and supervision in an end-to-end solution to upgrade and extend the capital city's grid.

The solution, designed to completely replace the existing network, will be implemented in three phases through 2017.
