The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said Tuesday that its basket oil price gained 0.90 dollars at the start of the week, stopping short of the 94-dollar mark, DPA reported.
Crude oil produced by OPEC reached 83.91 dollars per barrel (159 litres) on Monday, the highest price level since early October 2008.
The cartel's 12 member countries produce over a third of the world's crude oil.
