Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations prepares plan of actions to liquidate oil spills at sea

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations has prepared an action plan to eliminate oil spills at sea, the ministry infrastructure head Arif Iskandarov said at a meeting of Caspian-European Integration Business Club (CEIBC), dedicated to study of environmental risk oil and gas operations in the Caspian Sea.

He said the ministry has about 13 ships, equipment and the necessary human capacity to solve the possible consequences in case of industrial accidents on offshore oil and gas facilities.

The Ministry is fully prepared for this kind of situations. It is ready for the purchase of new equipment if it is necessary, Iskandarov said.

According to SOCAR vice president on ecology Soltan Aliyev, no one has a guarantee from emergencies, such as the one that occurred in the case of the BP platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

There are all the necessary technical conditions and equipment. Activities of these units are controlled.

There are all conditions for rapid response, prevention and elimination of possible technical problems.

There are 31 facilities in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. When implementing any projects in the Caspian Sea, companies prepare and submit documents related to assessing the impact on the environment to the Ecology Ministry, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Caspian Sea environmental monitoring department head Mirsalam Gambarov said.
