U.S. State Department special envoy: U.S to support EU strategy on energy security

The U.S. intends to support the strategy of the European Union's energy security. "The European Union is a partner in a number of global issues. Therefore, we are interested in acceleration of the capacity of the EU energy security," the U.S. State Department special envoy on Eurasian energy Richard Morningstar at the 17-th International Conference "Caspian Oil and Gas", held in Baku .

The U.S. intends to support the strategy of the European Union's energy security. "The European Union is a partner in a number of global issues. Therefore, we are interested in acceleration of  the capacity of the EU energy security," the U.S. State Department special envoy on Eurasian energy Richard Morningstar at the 17-th International Conference "Caspian Oil and Gas", held in Baku .

"We support the diversification of energy export from the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia [the EU] and are ready to assist them in seeking new markets for crude oil and gas",  Morningstar said.

He said that the U.S. in the Caspian region have strongly supported the opening of the "Southern Corridor", which involves the construction of several pipelines.

"These projects [construction of pipelines] can help in opening of new routes of gas supplies to Europe. It is commercially profitable for the countries of the region. It will allow creating a long-term cooperation on mutual interests with the European Union," Morningstar said.
