Iranian gas supplies to resume shortly to Turkey

Azerbaijan, Baku, August 26 / Trend A. Akhundov /

Iranian gas supplies to Turkey will resume in 7-8 days, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said yesterday after meeting with Syrian Ambassador in Ankara Nidal Kabalan. Gas supplies were suspended earlier this week after a blast along a gas pipeline, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The blast took place along a pipeline transporting gas from Iran to Turkey on Tuesday evening in Eleshkirt in the Turkish province of Agri. Iranian gas supplies to Turkey were suspended as a result.

"Gas from Azerbaijan and Russia fully satisfies Turkey's needs," Yildiz said.

Kabalan added that the building of the Arab Gas Pipeline's Turkish-Syrian section is nearing completion.

"The line will join Nabucco in the future," he said.

According to Yildiz, the Turkish section will be constructed by late 2011.
