Azerbaijan replaces section of major gas pipeline affected by fire

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 25 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

SOCAR will complete the construction of a new branch of the Altiagac-Agsu pipeline by mid-May where a fire broke out in April, SOCAR's Azerigas PU told Trend on Wednesday.

Gas leak on Altiagac-Agsu gas pipeline with diameter of 1,200 millimeter occurred on April 13, after which the fire took place. As a result of the taken measures, gas transportation via the pipeline was stopped, the fire was extinguished. The Altiagac-Agsu gas pipeline is part of the Mozdok-Gazimagomed main gas pipeline, which supplies gas to Russia. Problems on the main gas pipeline have not affected gas supplies to Russia.

There are no problems with gas transportation through the pipeline at the moment, and it is operating in the normal mode, Azerigas said.

"After the completion of construction of a new branch, pumping gas via the old branch will be redirected to the new line," Azerigas noted.
