Turkish Energy Minister: TANAP interested in Turkmen gas

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept 3 /Trend R.Hafizoglu/

TANAP is interested in Turkmen gas, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said on Sunday evening, the newspaper Hurriyet reported.

The minister said Turkey is a key element for the energy supply of Europe.

Azerbaijan and Turkey signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) on June 26.

In December last year, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a consortium that would build a gas pipeline to supply gas from Shah Deniz to Europe through Turkey. Currently, 20 per cent share in TANAP is owned by Turkish BOTAS, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) owns 80 percent.

The initial capacity of the pipeline is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters a year. About six billion cubic meters will be delivered to Turkey, and the rest - to Europe.
