Supreme Council of Adjara discusses the feasibility of building large HPP in the region

The Supreme Council of Adjara held a meeting to discuss the risk factors associated with the construction of large HPP's in the region.

Country is interested in attracting investors, but the construction of such facilities should not harm the environment, said a spokesman of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Adjara.

According to the Adzharistskali representative Nino Diasamidze, the investor has already invested 20 million GEL in the project, but only families whose land needed for the construction of hydroelectric power stations received compensation, the rest in the list will not get.

According to her, in case the consent of the new government, the construction work will begin in April next year.

Chairman of the Green Movement of Georgia considers that it is necessary to take into account the factor of blasting, which is very dangerous in the landslide zone, that will be needed during construction.

According to him, we must note that in addition to environmental changes, the construction of hydropower plant will change climate, in particular, will increase humidity, which also has a negative impact on the region.

Despite numerous consultations, the feasibility of construction of large hydroelectric power stations in Adjara is still not resolved.
