Ovezdurdy Chashayev has been appointed as the new director of Mary State Power Plant in Turkmenistan, an official Turkmen source said.

The enterprise is working under the Turkmenenergo State Electric Energy Corporation. The corresponding decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.
Former director Altymyrat Gurbangeldiev was released from this post 'for shortcomings in his work'.

According to the Turkmen government, the head of state said at a recent meeting that the output at the enterprise does not meet today's requirements.

Sectorial facilitators were instructed to take all necessary measures to address deficiencies in the plant, as well as to carry out repair work. It was also instructed that preparation proposals be submitted for the construction of a new modern power plant in the city of Mary and new substations in the Ashgabat Anau, Hojambaz district and the village of Zergyar in the Serdarabat district of the Lebap region.

According to preliminary data, in 2012 electricity production in Turkmenistan reached 19,189 kW/h. The growth rate of production will be 105 per cent compared to 2011.

At present, the installed capacity of all power plants in Turkmenistan's power supply system is 4104 MW, including modern gas turbine generators producing 1643 MW, or 40 per cent.
