Abadan refinery, located in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan, will increase daily gasoline output by 6 million tons to 21 million tons, ISNA quoted Iranian deputy oil minister Alireza Zeighami as saying.

A consortium of Iranian-foreign companies will invest some €2.6 billion to implement the second phase of the refinery's development plan, he noted.

In addition to gasoline, the development plan will boost 15.5 million liters of diesel fuel, 7.1 million liters of furnace oil, 3.9 million liters of jet fuel, and 1.5 million liters of liquefied gas to the refinery's production capacity, he added.

On January 31, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the third gasoline production unit of Abadan refinery.

Iran's Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said on September 21, 2012 Iran will boost its gasoline production capacity by 10 million liters in the near future.

According to his statements, once the third development phase of the Abadan Oil Refinery, the Lavan Refinery's gasoline production unit, and the RFCC unit of the Shazand Refinery come on stream, the country's clean gasoline output (Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards) will reach 25 million liters, from the current figure of 12 million.

Iran produces 64 million liters gasoline per day which meets only domestic needs.
