Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept. 12 / Trend H. Hasanov /
A memorandum of understanding was signed between Turkmengaz State Concern and the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation in Tokyo within Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Japan ( September 11-13 ), the Turkmen government said today.
"Japan is one of the most important and reliable partners for our country," Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe before the memorandum signing ceremony. "It is planned to sign a package of documents related to the construction of some large enterprises in Turkmenistan with the participation of Japanese companies. The total value of projects exceeds $ 10 billion."
According to him, the main objective of Turkmenistan's economic development is the industrialization of the country, which involves the construction of new industrial enterprises, the use of high technologies, active attraction of foreign investments.
The Turkmen- Japanese cooperation is seen an important component in the context of the development of the relations between Turkmenistan and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
"Turkmenistan and Japan strive to use their opportunities, as well as the geopolitical and geo-economic advantages to create favorable conditions for a positive regional dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation," Japanese Prime Minister said during the negotiations.
Turkmenistan has recently held talks with representatives of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The opportunity of Japanese companies' participation in joint investment projects in the petrochemical, gas processing, engineering, electrical and other
industries has been examined since early 2013.
Tokyo thinks that high technologies of Japan and rich natural resources of Turkmenistan are complementary.
A number of projects in Turkmenistan are implemented at the expenses of JBIC commercial loans. The participation in the project for modernization of Fuel and Energy Complex, in particular, $1.6 billion worth modernization of the largest refinery plant of the country in Turkmenbashi is especially noticeable.
