Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 4 / Trend, N. Kirtzkhalia /
Georgia's energy independence is an integral component of the country's independence, Georgian Minister of Energy Kakha Kaladze said to journalists on Friday after the signing ceremony of a memorandum of cooperation with the Energy Academy.
According to him, Georgia has abundant water resources, and this is an advantage of the country.
"Construction of hydropower plants is very important for us, so that we were not dependent on neighboring countries. The energy independence of Georgia is equivalent to the independence of the country. This is fundamentally important, and I am sure that the government's strategy is correct. We will be able to explain the importance of hydropower plants to a small part of the population, " the Minister said.
Kaladze also talked about the steps that have been taken by the new government in the energy sector, and stressed that the construction of HPP to ensure energy independence of the country will continue.
The minister also touched on the issue of wind power plants, the construction of which will begin in the near future.
"It will be a station with a capacity of 20 megawatts in Gori district, and there is also an opportunity to build a plant with a capacity of 150 megawatts in this district," he said.
