The annual Moscow Refining, Gas and Petrochemicals Week, organised by Euro Petroleum Consultants (EPC) is the most established industry event covering the challenging and rapidly developing Russia & CIS region.

The Moscow Week incorporates the following conferences: IGTC, RPTC and RRTC, respectively on Gas, Petrochemicals and Refining technology and was traditionally held at the end of September in luxurious surroundings of the Lotte Hotel in Moscow. The series of events brought together more than 500 professionals, representing gas and petrochemicals producers, refiners, licensors, suppliers of equipment, contractors, design institutes, consultants and government organisations.

The 5th International Gas Technology Conference & Exhibition - IGTC covered the impact of shale gas boom on global market, technology developments for gas processing, GTL, gas to chemicals, fertiliser projects, associated gases challenges and perspectives, gas transportation, LNG future in Russia and main LNG projects in the region.

Leading technology providers such as UOP, Axens, Haldor Topsøe, Cameron, Compact GTL etc. contributed to the conference agenda, presenting the latest technologies and case studies on successful implementations. Gazprom neft and Nipigazpererabotka shared the latest status of their current projects and reveal detailed information about their future ones and their implementation programmes.

The presentation of Vincent Simonneau, Sulphur Business Development Manager of Prosernat was received with special interest by the delegates. He presented integrated solutions for sulfur removal and conversion from associated gases and successful examples of their implementation in Russia & CIS. Another presentation that raised attention of the audience was delivered by Cristian Scaini, Manager of Research & Development for Offshore Assets, Saipem and included video on the current status of Nord Stream natural gas pipeline.

The GTL Session covered topics such as economic solution for distributed gas, transformational gas monetisation for the upstream industry, construction of the first in Russia mini GTL unit at a gas field, technologies for gas processing and gas & chemicals industry organisers had to extend the discussion part to accommodate the ongoing number of questions to the speakers.

The 12th edition of Russia & CIS Petrochemicals Technology Conference - RPTC, as usual provided important technology updates on olefins, polylines, aromatics & derivatives with innovations and case studies from Axens, UOP, Foster Wheeler, Ineos Technologies, Clariant Produkte, GTC Technology, KBR Technology, CRI Catalysts and others.

John Page, Vice President, Chemical Industry Consulting, IHS presented a comprehensive industry overview of the market, main drivers and trends as well as outlook for the petrochemical markets in the future.

Another presentation that raised attention of the audience was delivered by K4 company which participated for the first time and presented visual planning experience for schedule optimization and cost decrease including video of real implementation of visual planning.

RPTC concluded with a panel discussion covering the current industry challenges & opportunities.

Panel session participants included: Valery Kouznetsov, UOP; Rizida Zalilova, TATNEFT; Andy Allen, Foster Wheeler; Dr. Genaro Gutierrez, Ineos Technologies; Alexey Balyanov, Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat; Vladimir Shepelin, Nizhnekamskneftekhim.

The 13th Russia & CIS Refining Technology Conference & Exhibition, EPCs traditionally best attended event attracted up to 300 delegates this year. The event was enriched by the informative presentations of Colin Chapman, president of EPC, Prof. Vladimir Kapustin, General Director of VNIPINEFT, who presented the first results of the programme for oil refining development in Russia; Carlos Cabrera, Executive Chairman of Ivanhoe Energy, known as one of the most respected names in the Oil & Gas Industry with more than 35 years of experience, granted seven U.S. patents and authored numerous publications shed light about enabling economic production of heavy oil resources in Russia & CIS.

Amongst highly experienced speakers were representatives of key licensing & technology companies including: Axens, Dupont, Chevron Lummus Global, UOP, Exxonmobil R&E, Foster Wheeler, Cameron, Shell Global Solutions in cooperation with Omsk Refinery, Haldor Topsøe, Air Products, Neste Jacobs, Bechtel BHTS and many more.

The panel session at the end of RRTC was received with special interest by all delegates as it covered the current issues and difficulties for the Refining industry in the region. The participants of the panel discussion included: Yuri Seleznev, Axens; Nikolay Linov, Ryazan Refinery; Anatoly Artukh, Naftan; Konstantin Rudyak, Rosneft; Vladimir Galkin, Moscow Refinery; Prof. Mikhail Levinbuk, Russian Academy of Science; Carlos Cabrera, Executive Chairman, Ivanhoe Energy.

As always the events provided great networking opportunities for those who wanted to expand their business contacts & sales leads in the region. This was also due to the expanded exhibition area, which accommodated more than 30 exhibition stands this year. The networking was further enhanced by the Impressive Gala Evenings organized for all RPTC and RRTC attendees respectively held in Genatsvale City restaurant on Moscow River and in the Winter Garden of the Restaurant Art Gallery. The Gala dinner for RRTC was kindly sponsored by Axens, which was one of the main supporters of the Moscow Week by sponsoring the Lanyards of RPTC and the conference bags and Gala dinner of RRTC.

The organisers of the annual Moscow Week paid a special tribute to the late Dr. Haldor Topsøe - one of the most respected people in the industry, who passed away earlier this year. There was a specially dedicated Haldor Topsøe Memorial Lounge located next to the conference hall, where attendees could visit and follow Dr. Haldor Topsøe's milestones during his 100 years of life and contribution to the industry and the world.

The Moscow Refining Gas & Petrochemicals Week will continue to be an established forum for exchanging ideas and experience. The organisers are now looking forward to another event dedicated to Russia & CIS markets - the annual Russia & CIS Oil & Gas Executive Summit in Dubai (20 - 21 February, 2014), which is expected to once again attract the most senior industry representatives from the region.
