Iran electricity, equipment exports surpass $5 billion

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 10

By Rahim Zamanov - Trend: Iran electricity exports currently stands at $2 billion, Deputy Oil Minister Sattar Mahmoudi said on Sunday.

"The country also exports $3.1 billion worth of electricity equipment and services," the IRNA News Agency quoted Mahmoudi as saying.

"Iran annually constructs some power plants with the total output capacity of 5,000 megawatt hours," he said.

Iran's 13th International Electricity Exhibition and 9th International Water and Wastewater Exhibition closed in Tehran on Sunday.

Over 600 domestic and foreign firms from countries including the United States, China, Turkey, South Korea, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Iraq, Oman, India, Denmark, Poland, and the Netherlands participated in the exhibitions.

Iran's power generation capacity is currently over 70 gigawatts.

The country currently trades power with Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Armenia.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
