Production of solar cells in Azerbaijan cheapens the process of developing alternative energy sources in the country, director of the Azerbaijani State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Akim Badalov told journalists on Nov.20.

According to Badalov, the establishment of solar cell production in Sumgait means, along with additional jobs, lower prices and reducing dependence on foreign producers.

As the head of the State Agency said, work on the development of alternative energy sources in the country continues.

In particular, work is underway within the project on construction of Samukh agro - energy complex that will expand the possibilities of using agricultural waste in electricity production. According to Badalov, for these purposes the state has allocated 10 million manat, and in the coming years it will be possible to see the results of the implementation of this major project.

He also said that work is continuing on the development of the landfill on alternative sources of energy in Gobustan region of Azerbaijan.

In the long term, according to Badalov, Azerbaijan expects the boom in use of electric vehicles and their refueling will be a relevant question. The effective method for organizing refueling of these electric vehicles may be the use of solar technology.
