According to forecasts, the volume of oil production at the new West Chirag platform in 2014 will be three million tons per year, head of BP Azerbaijan Gordon Birrell said at a briefing on Jan.29.

BP is the project operator for the development of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

"According to forecasts, the average daily production at the platform will be around 60,000 barrels. During 2014, BP plans to complete drilling and commission six more wells. In total according to preliminary plans, it is planned to drill 14 production and technical wells at the platform," Birrell said.

The remaining wells he said will be commissioned in 2015-2016.

The daily debit of the first well was 3000 barrels, but higher rates are expected, the head of BP Azerbaijan stressed.

"We will be able to talk about drilling other wells depending on the conduct and results from the planned 14 wells," Birrell said adding that the new platform will ensure stability of production at ACG.

At full capacity the platform will produce 185,000 barrels of oil and 5.3 million cubic meters of gas daily.
The contract for development of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli large offshore field was signed in 1994. Shares are distributed as follows: BP (operator in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli) - 35.78 per cent, Chevron - 11.27 per cent, Inpex - 10.96 per cent, AzACG - 11.65 per cent, Statoil - 8.56 per cent, Exxon - 8 per cent, TPAO - 6.75 per cent, Itochu - 4.3 per cent and ONGC - 2.72 per cent.
