"The oil ministry has accepted our argument and will not distribute the mentioned kind of gasoline," she added.

"Iran's Department of Environment has the legal authority," Ebtekar said, adding that the government and Majlis (parliament) fully support the department.

Iran's deputy oil minister, Abbas Kazemi, said on Feb. 21 that Iran currently distributes some 7.5-8 million liters of gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard in the capital Tehran and nearby Karaj city, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported.

"As of next year (March 21) all the gas stations in Tehran will provide Euro-4 standard gasoline," Kazemi said.

"Iran's average gasoline consumption currently stands at 68 million liters per day," he said.

"We are currently storing enough gasoline to meet the country's demands in the New Year holidays and the next summer," Kashkouli explained.
