Azerenergy JSC (production and distribution of electric energy) plans to complete construction of the second combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 409 MegaWatt on the Shimal power plant this year, the head of JSC Etibar Pirverdiev told journalists on March 5.
The construction of the second Combined Cycle plant is important for strengthening of theh energy security of the Absheron peninsula.
At present, the electric power station satisfies a quarter of the electricity demand of Baku and Absheron. The figure will reach 35-40 percent with the construction of the second block. The construction of the second unit is conducted under the contract concluded with the Japanese Toyo Engineering company.
At present, there is one Combined Cycle tribune at Shimal power plant (North SDPP) with the capacity of 400 megawatts.
"The installed capacity of power generation in the country stands at 6000 megawatts," Pirverdiyev said. "The question may arise, why this capacity is not increased after starting the 800 - megawatt station [Janub] last year. The point is that, by creating new capacity, we gradually stop production in Shirvan power plant, which works since 1960s and is very old."
In addition, modernization of the distribution network, installation of Smart-counters will be continued in the country this year. Touching upon the level of collecting payment for supplied electricity, Pirverdiyev noted that it depends on the state of the distribution network.
"The charges at around 100 percent in the places where full network is created and counters are working, however the places where the condition is worse, the charges, respectively, lower," he said.
In 2013, Azerenergy JSC generated more than 21.5 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity compared to about 21.3 billion kilowatt/hours over the same period in 2012.
The capacity of power stations owned by Azerenergy exceeds 6,500 megawatts. It has over 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolt amperes, as well as 8 hydro power stations and 13 thermo power stations.
