Kazakhstan may refuse electricity supply from Kyrgyzstan, but much depends on the normalization of water regimes with the southern neighbors of the country, JSC Samruk-Energo head says.

We can cover all needs of the country's economy from our own sources. It is not critical for us to refuse energy supply from Kyrgyzstan, and we are almost ready for this challenge," JSC head Almasadam Satkaliyev told journalists in Astana.

The head of the company recalled that during peak periods Kazakhstan purchases electricity from Kyrgyzstan. However, Kazakhstan's energy system can itself handle a certain load, Satkaliyev said.

"We have the possibility to carry out rapid repairs in the northern stations, it is possible in the presence of subsidies for fuel oil from the state run Zhambyl GRES," he said.

Furthermore, the head of the JSC said that Kazakhstan's energy system works in parallel with the energy systems of Central Asian republics.

"Our systems are synchronized, i.e. it entails mutual flow," Satkaliyev said.

At the same time, he recalled that the interaction between the energy systems depend on the normalization of the water regime between the Central Asian countries.

"Kazakhstan largely depends on the development of agriculture in the south of the country from the the irrigation water that we obtain from the republics of Central Asia," JSC head said.
