Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company plans to complete work on six investment projects in 2014, Uzbekenergo said on April 14.

In particular, Uzbekistan plans to additionally commission more than 270 megawatts of generating capacity, construct the power transmission lines and commission more than 2,000 megawatts / ampere transformer capacity, increase the share of coal in the fuel-energy balance in a volume of more than one million tons, and install over five million electronic meters among consumers before 2015.

Around $750.3 million will be allocated from all funding sources to complete these projects and implement the current projects aimed at the development of the industry in 2014.

It was previously reported that the main directions of developing Uzbekistan's electric power industry till 2015 envisage the implementation of more than 45 investment projects with a total project cost of more than $7 billion.

Currently, Uzbekenergo implements the projects to expand the Talimarjan TPP by constructing two combined cycle power plants of 450 MW capacity each (a total project cost - $1.28 billion), to expand the Navoi TPP by constructing the second steam and gas unit with a capacity of 450 megawatts ($ 516 million), to construct a new thermal power plant with a total capacity of 900 MW, consisting of two blocks of steam and gas units with a capacity of 450 megawatts in Turakurgan district of Namangan region ($1 billion), to construct a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts in the Samarkand region (a preliminary project cost - $500 million), to construct a cascade of hydropower stations in Tashkent region, to develop the main and distribution power lines, to modernize the low-voltage distribution networks, and to improve the system of monitoring and metering of energy consumption.

Currently, there are 45 power plants with a total capacity of 12,970 megawatts in the Uzbek energy system, including 16 power plants included in Uzbekenergo with a total capacity of 12,040 megawatts. The rest electricity is generated by autonomous thermal power stations and small hydroelectric power stations belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.

The electricity generation in Uzbekistan increased by 3.2 percent (to 54.207 billion kilowatt/hours) in 2013 compared to 2012.
