Timeframe for working out feasibility study of AGRI project announced

The preparation of the feasibility study under the AGRI project (Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector) is expected to be completed in the first six months of 2014, a message posted on the website of the Romanian Economy Ministry said.

The AGRI project envisages the transportation of liquefied gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe.

The parties to the AGRI project will adopt a relevant decision on the project on the basis of the obtained data after completing the development of the feasibility study, Romanian ministry said.

The AGRI project and other issues regarding the expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania, were discussed during the meeting of Romanian Economy Minister, Constantin Nita with the Azerbaijani delegation led by Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Natig Aliyev and the head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnag Abdullayev, Romania's Economy Ministry said.

"Regarding the energy cooperation, both sides reaffirmed their interest in the development of the AGRI project," a message posted on the website of Romanian Economy Ministry said.

The AGRI project is currently in the development stage, the estimated investment volume required for its implementation haven't been determined yet, according to Romanian ministry.

Winning in the relevant tender, the UK Penspen engineering company is working out the project's feasibility study.

Currently, the project's participants are Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary. They created a joint venture in February 2011 to implement the SC AGRI LNG Project Company SRL project.
