Uzbekistan slightly increases electricity generation in early 2014

Uzbekistan increased the electricity generation by three percent (14.381 billion kilowatt hours) in Jan.-March 2014 compared to the first quarter of 2013, a source at Uzbekistan's government circles told Trend on April 15.

The power plants of Uzbekistan have provided the country's population and the enterprises with around 6.508 million gigacalories of thermal energy since early 2014 (an increase of 8.2 percent compared to the same period of 2013), according to the source.

The electricity generation in the country increased by 3.2 percent in 2013 compared to 2012 and amounted to 54.207 billion kilowatt hours. The power plants of Uzbekistan provided the country's population and the enterprises with around 18.537 million gigacalories of thermal energy in 2013 (a decrease of 2.6 percent).

Currently, about 45 power plants with total capacity of nearly 13,000 megawatt, as well as 16 power plants which are the part of Uzbekenergo State JSC operate in Uzbekistan's power supply system.
