Iran has traded 1,912 megawatts hours (MWh) of electricity with neighboring countries on April 17.

The country exported 1,382 MWh of electricity to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia, and Turkey, the country's IRIB news agency reported on April 18.

The country also imported 530 MWh of electricity from Armenia and Turkmenistan on the same day.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

The country seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.

Deputy Energy Minister Sattar Mahmoudi said in November 2013, that Iran annually exports 8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to neighboring countries.

"The mentioned figure is about 3 percent of the country's total output," the ILNA News Agency quoted Mahmoudi as saying.

Iran's total electricity generation stood at 263 billion kilowatt hours during the last Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), which indicates an increase by 3.6 percent compared the preceding year, according to the annual report of the country's energy ministry.

The country's power generation capacity is currently over 70 gigawatts.
