Turkey dismisses reports on sale of oil imported from Iraq

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 7

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Turkey hasn't started to sell oil that it imports from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Northern Iraq, Turkish Anadolu agency quoted the country's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yildiz as saying on May 7.

The minister pointed out that Turkey imports around 100,000 barrels of Iraqi oil per day, adding that the country's oil reserves are estimated at 2.2 million barrels.

"The reports claiming that Turkey has allegedly started selling Iraqi oil in world markets, are false," Yildiz stressed.

He underscored that the oil imported by Turkey from the KRG in Northern Iraq, will be kept in storages, until the Turkish side reaches a corresponding agreement with Baghdad.

Yildiz earlier said that KRG in Northern Iraq has started delivering oil to Turkey, but it will not be shipped to the European market without Bagdad's consent.
