Uzbekenergo prepares tender for construction of first Central Asian heliostation

"Uzbekenergo" State Joint Stock Company completes the preparation of tender documents for the selection of a contractor for the construction of the photovoltaic power plant technology in the Samarkand region worth $310 million, the representative of the energy company told Trend.

"Uzbekenergo" State Joint Stock Company completes the preparation of tender documents for the selection of a contractor for the construction of the photovoltaic power plant technology in the Samarkand region worth $310 million, the representative of the energy company told Trend.

The tender will be announced in June - July, the source said.
In accordance with the feasibility study of the project, it is provided the construction of generating capacity of 100 MW with output of up to 200 million kWh of electricity per year.

The commissioning of the station is scheduled for March, 2019.

The funding will be provided by loan from the Asian Development Bank in the amount of $110 million, as well as the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and "Uzbekenergo2.

As previously reported, in early 2013, Uzbekistan worked out a set of measures on the development of the alternative energy sources.

Construction of the several solar power plants with total capacity of more than two gigawatts, and the construction of the facility on the photovoltaic panel production with the capacity of 100 MW is planned. The International Institute for Solar Energy was also established.

Today, oil and gas occupy 97 percent the structure of primary energy resources in Uzbekistan, 2.3 percent - coal, 0.7 per cent - hydropower.

At the same time, the potential of renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan is about 51 billion tonnes of oil equivalent.

Furthermore, solar energy potential in the country, where there are more than 300 sunny days a year, is about 50.973 billion tonnes of oil equivalent.
