Azerbaijan sees 3.8 percent increase in gas production

Azerbaijan produced some 16.2 billion cubic meters gas in 2013, or 3.8 percent more than in 2012, according to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy.

Azerbaijan accounted for 0.5 percent of the world gas production volume in 2013.
Gas consumption increased by 1.5 percent and hit 8.6 billion cubic meters in 2013, according to BP.

BP's estimations on Azerbaijan's proven gas reserves remained unchanged: 0.9 trillion cubic meters, which accounts for 0.5 percent of the world's proven gas reserves.

Azerbaijan's largest gas condensate field is the Shah Deniz field with the proven reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas.

The contract for development of the Shah Deniz offshore field was signed on June 4, 1996.

Partners operating for Shah Deniz field's development include SOCAR with a share of 16.7 percent, British BP (28.8 percent), Norwegian Statoil (15.5 percent), Iranian NICO (10 percent), Russian Lukoil (10 percent) and Turkish TPAO (19 percent).
