EU discusses energy issues with Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, June 25

By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

The priority areas for further cooperation in energy and water management were discussed during a meeting with EU Special Envoy for Central Asia, Janos Herman at the foreign ministry.

The implementation of the EU strategy for Central Asia and aspects of regional cooperation were also discussed, the Turkmen government said on June 25.

Turkmenistan, with the fourth largest gas reserves in the world, is exploring the possibilities of entering the European market. The project of laying the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline to the coast of Azerbaijan is underway. Turkmen raw materials can be delivered to Turkey and further to Europe.

The negotiations on this project among the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan started in September 2011.
