The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) exported around $640 million cubic meters of gas to Georgia in the first half of 2014, which is 43.5 percent more than in the same period of 2013, a source at SOCAR told Trend on July 30.

By comparison, SOCAR exported some 446 million cubic meters of gas to this country in January-June 2013.

"The gas export to Georgia continues successfully and nearly 640 million cubic meters of gas was exported to this country in the first half of 2014," the source said.

SOCAR exported around a billion cubic meters of gas to Georgia in 2013, versus 993 million cubic meters in 2012.

SOCAR supplies its gas to Georgia through the pipeline connecting the two countries in Azerbaijan's Gazakh region. The volume of gas pumping through this pipeline amounts to around 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Georgia Gas Company controls the gas distributing networks covering different regions of Georgia, through SOCAR.
