By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran plans to export electricity to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Iranian deputy energy minister Houshang Falahatian said talks are underway with the Persian Gulf states to export electricity, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Aug. 15.
A subsea transmission line is projected to be established in the Persian Gulf, he added.
Establishing two transmission lines between Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia is also on the agenda, he noted.
A 400KW transmission line between Iran and Azerbaijan is complete by 90 percent, he said.
Power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the past 10 years. The figure has averaged 3.5 percent in the world.
According to the Iran's Energy Ministry's annual report, the country produced 263 billion KWh electricity, while exported above 11.7 billion KWh and imported 3.7 billion KWh during last fiscal year, ended on March 2014.
Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.
Iran's total electricity generation currently stands at 70 gigawatts.
Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.
Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
